English Class Curricula and Student Literacy

I wrote this paper for my Learning Theory, Media and Curricula class. We were supposed to determine an issue in today's schools and research that issue. I chose one of my greatest pet peeves about high school: the English program. Now I should first issue a disclaimer: some high schools have incredible English programs that encourage reading and get the students to love the books they discuss in class. Mine did not exactly reach that ideal, and based on the research I did for this paper, not many do. Reading is one of my eternal passions, and one of the greatest tragedies of modern American society, in my opinion, is that few American adults consider reading a desirable leisure activity. One of my goals as a school librarian is to encourage today's youth to learn to love reading and learning and carry that love into their adult lives.

You will note that the format of the paper is rather different from my War Paper. This is mainly because this paper was a Literature Review and my War Paper was a simple essay.
